What made you want to care for animals for a living?
I've had a love of all things furry, slimy, scaled and feathered for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid, I would pick up any and all animals be it wildlife, feral or stray pets. (Don't tell my parents that I picked up that bat!) In 2006, I became a licensed veterinary technician and have worked in clinic settings on and off since. I also keep up my registration/licensing with various in person and online continuing education courses.
Do you require a meet & greet prior to caring for my pets?
Yes, I want to make sure we are all a great fit. If you need me to meet your pet multiple times, a drop in fee or dog walking fee will be charged. If you decide to use my services at the time of a meet & greet, a 50% deposit is required.
Do you stay at my home 24 hours a day for "overnight" bookings?
I will sleep in your home overnight and make sure your dogs go on lots of walks (included in price) and playtime. During the day, I will be away from your home between 4-5 hours. Let me know if your pet needs to go out more frequently (ex. older dogs, puppies.)
Do my pets need to be vaccinated?
Rabies is a vaccine required by law, so all dogs and cats (regardless if they are indoors only) will need to have proof of a rabies vaccination. For dogs staying in my home, I require rabies, distemper, bordetella, and influenza. Please have rabies tag affixed to pet's collar.
Can you give my dog or cat oral medications or subcutaneous fluids? Absolutely. Subcutaneous fluids, intramuscular medications, as well as oral and subcutaneous injections, depending on disposition. I'm unable to give oral medications to birds or bunnies.
Do I really need to fill out all your paperwork?
Yes, these are important documents for my business purposes and are required to be completed prior to services.
Are you insured?
Absolutely! I am insured with the company Pet Care Insurance . They not only provide coverage for pet sitters, groomers, dog trainers, and even pet taxis.
What do you do in case of an emergency?
I will immediately call you and/or your emergency contact. Some veterinary hospitals may not treat your pet without a form stating you give your pet sitter permission to do so. One great tip, give a call to your preferred veterinarian and ask them to put a note on your account with names of people who are allowed to bring your pet to see them. That way if an emergency does arise, they have your pet sitter on your account as a decision maker. Unfortunately, I've seen this happen many times in a clinic setting and care was not able to be provided other than stabilization. Having your credit card on file at your primary veterinarian is important, as your pet may not be released from medication treatment without payment in full.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you, the pet owner, cancel the booking for overnight stays, please provide at least seven days notice. For day care and boarding please provide at least three days. For dog walking or drop in visits, you may cancel on the same day. A deposit of 50% is required for overnight stays if meet and greet goes well. I will also give you paperwork to complete prior to me staying.
Termination by me, the pet sitter, would be anytime the pet(s) pose a danger to the health or safety of me, other people or pets. You will be notified immediately and any unused portion of your payment will be refunded.
How much notice is needed to book with you?
Overnight visits: at least two weeks prior.
Dog walking, day care at my home, or drop in visits at your home: at least three days prior.
I require a meet and greet prior to all services for all new clients. During the summer I book up quickly so more than a two week notice is highly recommended.
Will you ever feed my pets anything other than treats or food provided by me?
I will only offer treats provided by you, and will never give people food.
What other animals do you care for?
Snakes, spiders, lizards, hamsters, rats, mice, guinea pigs, ferrets, chickens, bunnies, etc. No birds please, unless I only have to feed and offer fresh water. I am unable to medicate bunnies.
Will you walk my pet in inclement weather?
For the safety of your pet (as well as me) during extreme weather (below 25 and above 80) outdoor trips will be for a potty break only. Frostbite during the winter or burned paws in the summer are no fun, and result in expensive, and possible months long, painful and expensive vet appointments. After a short potty break I will play with your pet and offer cuddles inside your home.
How will you communicate with me while I'm gone?
Texts and phone calls. Feel free to check in as much as you like!
Will you ever have people stay overnight in my home while you are pet sitting? What about family/friends visiting during the day?
I will NEVER have someone spend the night at your home. I will ask in advance if a family member or friend can come over during the day, especially with longer stays and further location from my home.
Can you water my plants, take trash out, pick up mail/packages?
Indeed!
